Winter on Wheels in Finland

Wednesday, February 19th, 2014

This is an exciting announcement…I’m heading to Finland very soon for a “Winter on Wheels” event in Rovaniemi, Finland. I’m going to get an opportunity to hone my snow and ice driving skills with a series of different kind of vehicles, including a Ford Escort rally car, ice karts and quad bikes.

Not only have I never been to a Scandinavian country, but this trip to Finland will allow me to scratch a few things off my bucket list. For starters, I will get to see the Northern Lights from one of the best places in the world, Lapland, Finland…at, one of the best times of the year. Next on the list…snowmobiling (aka Snow Machine)…I’ll finally get my chance to experience this adrenaline rush with the folks from Lapland Safaris. The third thing that will be scratched off the list will be staying in an ice hotel, called “SnowCastle.” The SnowCastle in located in Kemi and offers visitors a host of activities, including a SnowRestaurant, indoor playground for children, and, a SnowChapel.  Oh, this is going to be fun. Stay tuned for updates. Once I return to the states I’ll be working on a series of videos of my experience.

Next month…Detroit for NAIAS

Thursday, December 5th, 2013

I’m super excited…I was just invited to the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) by Ford next month. As many of you know, I’ve been road tripping around North American for nearly four years in my Ford F-150.  Next month I will join 150 bloggers from around the world at NAIAS for a behind-the-scenes tour of the show, as well as the opportunity to see and drive some of the latest and greatest by Ford.

Stay tuned as I’ll be providing many updates of the experience.

Thanksgiving in San Diego

Friday, October 25th, 2013

I’ll be spending Thanksgiving in San Diego this year at my sister’s place. As a matter of fact, I’m going to be meeting my new half-sister that I recently found out about. It’s quite an extraordinary story, if you’re interested, read my article entitled, “six degrees of sibling separation.

VEMEX 2013 in San Francisco

Friday, October 25th, 2013

I’ll be attending the 2013 VEMEX Travel show in San Francisco on November 20th. This is the first time I’ve attended VEMEX, which if you’re not familiar is a European travel media show.  Tourism leaders representing many European countries visit several cities around the U.S. to meet with travel journalists to encourage them to visit their cities and countries.

Vegas bound baby!

Friday, October 25th, 2013

I’m heading to Vegas in just over a week (week of 11/4/2013). If there are any bloggers or followers that would like to get together while I’m there, please drop me a line.  I’ll be staying on the strip for the week at the Circus Circus KOA where I’ll be filming a video.

Epic east coast road trip coming up…

Saturday, April 27th, 2013

Over the past three years I’ve been road tripping from north to south, and east and west of the US and Canada.  I’ve only done one trip to the east, so I’m long past due for another.  During the month of May I will be road tripping from Arizona to Toronto, Ontario.  My first stop outside of Arizona will be Santa Fe, New Mexico, where last year I spent time during the Rand McNally and USA Today’s, “Best of the Road.” I’m really looking forward to a return visit as Santa Fe has a special place in my heart.  During my visit I’ll be meeting up with a couple blogger friends as well as producing a video for a local boutique hotel.

My next stop will be a 2011 “Best of the Road” contender for “Most Friendly” small town in America…Woodward, Oklahoma.  While Woodward did not win the coveted honor, they were a top-6 finalist, so I’m looking forward to seeing just how friendly the folks are in the great state of OK.

Next up will be Eureka Springs, Arkansas…one of the few remaining states I’ve not yet been to. I’ve heard amazing things about Eureka Springs and can’t wait to check it out. While I’m there I’ll be filming a video for a B&B as well collecting footage of the community to document this epic road trip .

After traveling across the northern part of Arkansas, my next stop will be Chattanooga, Tennessee, yet another state I’ve not been to.  I have a friend who lives in the area and am am hoping to meet up while in town.  My accommodations while in town will be at the gorgeous Chattanooga Hotel.  Here I plan on doing a bit of relaxing, perhaps take in a spa treatment and enjoy some fine dining.

A National park that has been on my bucket list is the Smokey Mountains. I’m so excited I’ll have an opportunity to explore and camp out under the stars in this iconic park. On the other side of the of the mountain range is Asheville, North Carolina, where I’ll be staying with some new friends and fellow bloggers, from Travel for Wildlife. One of the items on the agenda is seeing the famed Biltmore Estate.  I also have another friend from Arizona who moved to Asheville a few years ago and am hoping to meet up with her as well.

My next stop is yet another “Best of the Road” town, this one was the 2012 winner for “most beautiful” small town in America…Bardstown, Kentucky.  As I continue my trek north I’m hoping to stay in northern Ohio for a few days en route to Toronto for the final leg of this portion of my road trip. I will be in Toronto for the annual TBEX (Travel blogger conference).  After the conference I plan on spending 2-3 months exploring eastern Canada.  From there, we’ll see where the road takes me.

For now, that’s what’s coming up.  If you’ve been to any of these towns (or places along the way) and have suggestions on where I should eat, things I should see/do, please post a comment below, your recommendations would be much appreciated.

NY Daily News says “Best of the Road” a must watch

Tuesday, July 24th, 2012

How cool is this…the NY Daily News puts together a top-10 list of “must watch” shows each week.  For the week of July 22nd they mentioned the Travel Channel “Best of the Road” show that I’m on.  Don’t miss it…July 25th at 8pm EST.

Change of Plans, D.C. instead of Keystone

Monday, June 11th, 2012

I was really looking forward to TBEX (Travel Blogger Convention) this year.  I got a lot out of the conference last year and was excited for this year in Keystone, CO.  Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend due to a scheduling conflict.  Instead, I’ll be heading to Washington D.C. to participate in the “Best of the Road” rally sponsored by Rand McNally and USA Today.  Oh, and, the Travel Channel will be filming the entire event and will air a one-hour segment on July 25th at 8pm EST. So, while one door closed, a really cool one opened…hopefully with lots of opportunities for the near future.

Travel Blogger conference

Tuesday, April 24th, 2012

Last year I went to the TBEX Travel Blogger Conference in Vancouver, B.C., this year it’s going to be in Keystone, Colorado.  After spending a month in northern, CA, I’ll be heading east to Colorado for the TBEX ‘12.  I’m really looking forward to connecting with fellow bloggers I’ve meet (and followed) over the past year.  Should be a great time!

Heading to Portola for a month

Sunday, April 22nd, 2012

I’ll be heading to the northern Sierra Nevada Mountains for the month of May to do a few projects for the Chalet View Lodge.  I featured the Lodge last year and it’s a fantastic place…I can’t wait to get out of the heat of the southwest and enjoy the cool mountain air. Anyone wanna come for a visit?  Check out for more info.
