| Description: | Crater Lake and the scenic byway 138 drive to it are just spectacular! Crater is located in the south-central region of the Oregon and is for its deep blue water and clarity. The lake partly fills a nearly 2,100 foot caldera that was formed around 7,700 years ago by the collapse of the Mount Mazama volcano. There are no rivers flowing in or out of the lake; the evaporation is compensated for by rain and snowfall at a rate that takes 250 years to replace it all. |
