Camped in Glacier NP and got close to a Black Bear

I spend most of the day in Glacier National Park yesterday and set up camp early in the evening. Once camp was set up and I got some grub in me I went for a walk (mind you, they say to never hike alone…but what am I supposed to do traveling solo?).

While traversing along this rapid-filled river I noticed some interesting footprints—looked to be from more than one animal. Shortly thereafter I heard some branches being broken and looked up to see a pretty large black bear a mere 60-70 yards away. As any good travel adventure guy would do, the first thing I did was turn on the video camera. Right after I noticed the bear, he then noticed me and was locked in a star. I slowly began to move backward not taking my eye off the bear. When I got 100+ yards away I felt a bit safer, but it wasn’t until the bear went back to doing what he was doing that I felt comfortable enough turning away and hightailed it out of there.

Tonight I lap in luxury at the most amazing Lodge, the Glacier Mountain Lodge, which is probably the nicest accommodations I’ve ever stayed in.  Stay tuned for pics and more info in the next post.
