July 14th 2010 update

Today was not one of the best days on the road…I messed up and missed a turn that took me well over 100 miles out of my way.  DetourFAIL™.  Not only did it add two hours to my trip, but wasted fuel in an area where it’s nearly $4.50 a gallon.  It cost me $85 to fill up (that means Canada has nearly a 100% tax on fuel…guess they have to pay for that “free” healthcare somehow).  🙂 I don’t really care to spend my entire day driving, I like to take my time and pull over whenever I see a good shot.  Hopefully I won’t make that mistake again.

Happily I’m now at my home for the next few days in Canmore, Alberta, which is just east of the Banff area.  I’m staying a very charming B&B called, The Lady MacDonald Country Inn.  My room is quite nice with a very European feel…which I guess would stand to reason since one of the proprietors is Swiss.

I’m really looking forward to checking out the area tomorrow, I’ve wanted to come here for years now.  Everyone I’ve talked to about Banff has said it’s amazing!

Stay tuned…
