Jack Binion’s is savory sensation

Jack Binion’s is one of those classically sophisticated restaurants that epitomizes fine dining.  The atmosphere sort of reminded me of being in Chicago (even though I was in Tunica, Mississippi), with its rich and elegant décor. From the interaction with the hostess, throughout the dining experience, the service was impeccable.

The menu is an extensive array of classic American dishes with an innovative flair that plays a symphony for your palate. Each item from the menu can be further enjoyed while sipping a signature cocktail, a glass of barrel fresh wine, or any number of craft beers.

I was with a group of travel journalists touring the Mississippi Delta, which gave me an opportunity to try a number of items on the Jack Binion’s menu. Every item I tried was cooked to perfection and left me second guessing my entrée decision. Take for example the lobster bisque…an over-sized bowl with expansive flat rim was brought to the table with large chunks of lobster meat on display. From a beautiful copper pot, the server gently poured the bisque over the lobster. Both the presentation and taste were exceptional. Another mouthwatering item was the applewood bacon-wrapped scallops. The smoky flavor from the bacon really complimented the scallops.

While I only got to taste the lobster bisque, I was not disappointed in the least with my entrée choice…a seafood flight. Three small plate portions of seafood on a single serving platter consisted of a halibut with jasmine rice, a grilled salmon topped with a tomato basil sauce and New Orleans-style shrimp with grits to get my Southern food on.

For a side dish I had the grilled asparagus with hollandaise sauce…a perfect accoutrement!

While I didn’t get to try the fresh grilled lobster tail, I couldn’t help but take a photo of this classic epicurean delight.
