  1. I love the first pic – the Salmon, the color and presentation leaves your taste buds mouth-watering. Very scrumptious indeed!

    1. Oh, yes Rhonda….that was one of my favorites on this list. Very light, fresh, flavorful and…unique. Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Cheers, Mike

  2. I have had the pleasure of eating this salmon dish from Scholar’s Inn in Bloomington, IN, as well as many others there, and it was quite delicious. Scholar’s is lways a fun place with creative food! Never been disappointed and enjoy exploring different food combos with a restaurant that gets it right. Yum!!!

  3. Well as Alligator Creek Bed and Breakfast I guess I should vote for the alligator, but in fact Australia has never had any alligators. However, the locals like to worry the tourists: ‘there are no alligators, mate, ‘cos the crocs ate them long ago!!’

  4. Awesome pics! As a big foodie who just finished up living in Asia for 3 yrs, these are probably pretty tame compared to many of the unique and just downright crazy things I’ve eaten, but they all look awesome, especially the sous vide sockeye salmon. 🙂 I do a lot with Michelin starred restaurants and molecular gastronomy so I’ve tried a variety of completely unexpected creations from olive oil caviar (one of my favorites) to foie gras macarons (a starter course). I won’t even go into some of the ‘Andrew Zimmern’ creations I’ve tried, but even those have taught me a lot about having an open mind about food and learning to appreciate a meal with all your senses. 10 years ago I probably would’ve said yuck to half the photos you posted here and now I find myself imagining the textures, flavors, and wine pairings in my head. Food is definitely a key part of traveling, so I’m glad to randomly run across your post! 🙂

    1. Hi Erin! Why thank you so much. Yeah, these dishes might be more on the “creative” side of “unique.” I too have been to Asia and I know there are a lot more exotic dishes out there than this particular list. One of deciding factors to this post was having a decent pic…there were a number of other dishes I wanted to feature, but just didn’t have a great shot. Wow, what an experience you’ve had! I just glanced at your site and look forward to reading more. Thanks so much for stopping by. Cheers!

  5. I hear you on the no great shots…there are some photos I have that seriously make me cringe (and can’t believe I did post some on the blog lol). And thanks…our site is woefully behind as I’ve been concentrating on writing for my paid gigs, but going to get back into blogging more regularly (and possibly pull down some of those cringeworthy photos lol). Sssshhh, but I think I’m about a year or so behind — some of my best meals as well (a couple highlights included Joel Robuchon’s personal guest at his newest restaurant in Paris, trying sake reserved for Japan’s Emperor, sampling Chateau Lafite, and hanging out with Dom Perignon’s cellar master).

I need to go check out more drool worthy photos on your site. Really want to visit Santa Fe now! 🙂 I just ran across the post that you were supposed to be at TBEX in Keystone! Some great food at that one (loved the desserts at the kick off party), but I assume you missed Spain TBEX last week? That was a foodie paradise! I’m still trying to come off my Iberico high. LOL

    1. Hey again Erin! Yes, I missed TBEX Keystone. I was so disappointed, but I was on a month-long road trip with Rand McNally and USA Today called, “Best of the Road.” I went to 97 different restaurants and tried nearly 400 meals. It was epic. “Best of the Road started the same day as TBEX. I was at TBEX Vancouver, which was awesome. I have my tickets for Toronto next June. Yes, you have to get to Santa Fe…amazing food there! Anyhow, great chatting and connecting with you. Ciao!
