What a Fun Day!
Had a blast today at the Gateway Canyons Resort…first stop was to their Gateway Auto Museum, which was unlike anything I’ve seen before. Of course you expect to see some great classic cars, but there were so many…and, they span a 100 year period. Additionally, the museum is so well refined with colorful and informative walls, displays and accents.
The museum has to be one of the finest private collections of automobiles in existence. The compilation is that of John Hendricks, owner of the Gateway Canyon Resort and founder of the Discovery Channel. The highlight is a one-of-a-kind 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 that never made it out of concept…it was purchased for $3.24m at the Barrett Jackson Auction a few years back. (Click here for more pics).
Next up was lunch at the Paradox Grille, one of three restaurants on site. I had a delicious honey turkey and apple-smoked bacon sandwich served on a croissant. My lunch was enjoyed on one of the outdoor patios that offers up spectacular views of the landscape. (Note: I have to say, the prices at the restaurants are very reasonable, especially for such a quality resort).
After lunch I was off for a brief drive up the canyon, where the resort has a dedicated horse ranch and stables. I took a trail ride into the mountains where I was met with snow-capped peaks and crystal clear creeks that flowed down the hillside, making for a serene and enjoyable ride.
It had been a while since I’d been horseback riding, so I knew I was going to be a bit sore…to help elevate the inevitable, I decided to take a soak in my own private hot tub. After a shower I donned some fresh clothes and took a stroll through the palatial property. The resort has so many nooks and crannies to explore, relax and take-in the wonderment of the surrounding beauty.
After my walk it was time once again to enjoy a fine-dining experience. I am now retired for the evening in my oh so comfy room. I can’t wait to wake up and do it all over again. 🙂
